School of Veterinary Medicine Ceremony

Assembly at the Mondavi Center

Candidates for degrees and resident certificates will assemble in the Studio Theater at 9:45 a.m. Faculty and stage party members will assemble in the staging areas inside the Mondavi Center at 9:45 a.m.

Order of Procession

The procession will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. The order of the procession will be the candidates, faculty, marshall and stage party. D.V.M. degree candidates will be seated on stage.

Ceremony

The ceremony will include remarks by the dean, student speakers and a faculty speaker; the presentation of awards; the conferring of degrees and hoods; and the administration of the Veterinarian's Oath.

At the appropriate time in the program, candidates will rise for presentation to the chancellor. Following degree conferral, candidates will cross the stage and hand their name cards to the announcer for presentation to the Chair of the Faculty (Marshal) who will invest the hoods. Candidates will cross the stage to the chancellor and the dean and then return to their seats to be led in reciting the Veterinarian's Oath.

The ceremony, approximately two hours in length, concludes with a recessional by the stage party, followed by faculty and graduates.

Reception

Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served in the lobby of the Mondavi Center for degree recipients, their families and friends, and friends of the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Please refer to the ticket information under General Information for all Degree Candidates.

Gown and Hood Return

To avoid a late-return charge, gowns must be returned to the collection staff located adjacent to the reception immediately following the ceremony or to the UC Davis Bookstore no later than Monday, June 16. Hoods, which are the property of the School of Veterinary Medicine, will be collected at a designated table.
