College of Letters and Science Ceremonies
Tickets
Submitting the participation confirmation information is mandatory for you to receive tickets to the L&S commencement ceremony. Students who wish to receive tickets must submit an online registration by April 11, 2008 . Timely submission of participation information is critical to ensure that you receive your tickets. Students who submit information after the deadline cannot be guaranteed tickets.
Eligible students who have completed at least 160 units at the conclusion of winter quarter 2008 and who register online by the deadline will receive tickets for the ceremony in which their major will assemble. If you are a double major you must choose one ceremony in which to participate. Tickets will be mailed mid-May to the address on the online registration form.
For June 2008, we anticipate 5 tickets per student. You are encouraged to return any tickets that will not be used to the Deans Office, Social Sciences and Humanities Building. University policy prohibits the selling of commencement tickets for money or commercial value. Violation will result in referral to Student Judicial Affairs.
Ceremony
Each College of Letters and Science ceremony will begin promptly with the entry of candidates and the academic procession. Members of the official party will sit on stage. Candidates for degrees and faculty will be seated in chairs on the main floor facing the stage.
The ceremony, which will last approximately two hours, will include short addresses by distinguished speakers, the conferring of degrees by the chancellor and the recessional.
Each graduate will be presented on stage, receive a certificate and then return to his or her seat. The ceremony concludes with a recessional by the stage party and faculty, followed by the graduates.
Specific directions for assembly will be mailed in mid-May to each candidate who registers online. If you have a double major, please indicate the one major with which you would like to be seated.
