Graduate Studies Ceremony

Registration
Students who plan to participate in commencement should register online by April 28, 2008.
Assembly
Candidates for degrees will assemble in academic dress at ARC Pavilion at 3:15 p.m. Specific directions for the assembly will be given to candidates who have indicated they will be attending the ceremony. Caps, gowns and hoods are available at the UC Davis Bookstore. See Academic Dress under General Information. Academic dress will not be available the evening of the ceremony.
Order of Procession
The order of the procession will be marshal, Ph.D. and Master's, interested and retired faculty, and stage party. All candidates should remain standing until the national anthem has concluded.
Ceremony
At the appropriate time in the program, the marshal or Dean will ask each group of candidates to rise. After the degree is conferred, the marshal or Dean will direct the graduates to come forward.
Candidates for the doctoral degree will be escorted to the stage by their faculty presenter. The candidates will be presented to the dean, be invested with the hood and receive a scroll from the conferring officer. Candidates will cross the stage and return to their seats.
Master's and Ph.D. candidates will be escorted to the stage. As candidates move across the stage, they will present their name cards to the reader, who will announce the names. Candidates will then receive scrolls from the conferring officer, cross and exit the stage, get their photograph taken and return to their seats.
The ceremony will close with a recessional led by the stage party. Degree recipients and faculty will follow the stage party out of ARC Pavilion. The audience will remain standing at their seats until the participants have recessed.

Gown and Hood Return
To avoid a late-return charge, gowns and hoods must be returned to the collection staff outside the 2B exit of ARC Pavilion immediately following the ceremony or to the UC Davis Bookstore no later than Monday, June 16, 2008.

Reception
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception offering light refreshments will be held for degree recipients and their families and friends.
